Short Women Celebrity Spotlight: Marissa Jaret Winokur

Wednesday, April 16, 2008

Although she has only recently garnered widespread national fame, Dancing with the Stars contestant Marissa Jaret Winokur is no stranger to success. She won the Tony Award for Best Actress in a musicial in 2003 for her performance in Hairspray. As the first person to star in the role of Tracy Turnblad, she set the bar high for years to come. Her voice appears on the official Broadway cast recording for Hairspray, as well as on one song on the Hairspray movie soundtrack.

Marissa is reportedly just shy of five feet tall, yet she has not let that stand in her way. Even though her Dancing with the Stars partner towers over her, she does her best to allow her personality and positive spirit make up for what she lacks in height.

Marissa has also shown a great personal strength, having
survived cervical cancer approximately seven years ago. She reportedly kept her battle a secret, worrying that it could cost her the role on Broadway that she had fought so hard to achieve.

In addition to all her past acheivements, she will also be adding another role soon: mom. She and husband Judah Miller are
expecting a baby via a surrogate this summer.
