She followed that up with an nomination for Best Actress in 2004 for her role as Glinda in Wicked. She lost that award to her co-star Idina Menzel.

Kristen does not let her short stature of four feet eleven inches tall stand in the way of her success at happiness. According to IMDB, Kristen said,"I used to want to be tall, and then I thought, 'If I were tall, then people would say I was pretty and not cute.' And then I realized that there are worse things than being called cute. They could say I was a bitch, which would be terrible in my book. So I've decided that this height ain't so bad."

She also revealed that she is Christian, but is not against gay marriage. She said, "I don't understand what the big deal is with gay marriage. Get over it, people. What if it was a sin to be short? She won the Tony Award for Best Actress in a musicial in 2003 for her performance in Hairspray. As the first person to star in the role of Tracy Turnblad, she set the bar high for years to come. Her voice appears on the official Broadway cast recording for Hairspray, as well as on one song on the Hairspray movie soundtrack.

Marissa is reportedly just shy of five feet tall, yet she has not let that stand in her way. Even though her Dancing with the Stars partner towers over her, she does her best to allow her personality and positive spirit make up for what she lacks in height.

Marissa has also shown a great personal strength, having survived cervical cancer approximately seven years ago. She reportedly kept her battle a secret, worrying that it could cost her the role on Broadway that she had fought so hard to achieve.

In addition to all her past acheivements, she will also be adding another role soon: mom. As many of you know, many major department stores must believe that the majority of women who wear petite clothing are over 80 years old. As a result, most of the clothing choices do not say "young professional."

I was overjoyed when I discovered Petite Sophisticate. For several years it was my go-to store for suits, dress shirts, and pants. My closet is well stocked with clothes with the Petite Sophisticate logo.

Imagine my sadness a couple of years ago when I went to my local store and saw a going-out-of-business sign. At first I thought it was just that branch, but soon learned that the entire chain was going out of business. Although I took full advantage of the high percentage discounts, I could not help but feel that my wardrobe was going to go downhill quickly.

Last year when I was at a local outlet mall, I saw a sign that said "Coming soon: Petite Sophisticate Outlet." I could not believe that my store was coming back! Sure enough, there are now limited retail outlets of Petite Sophisticate throughout the country, which is now operating under Charming Shoppes, Inc.

Unfortunately, though, the outlet store does not have the same selection as my old stand-by Petite Sophisticate store and I can never find anything in there that fits my style. The clothing in the store has too much fuchsia, too many patterns, and clothing with unattractive trim. In short, it is a mere shadow of of its former self.

The Petite Sophisticate website has a better selection than my local outlet store, especially the variety of dresses, so check them out if you need some new clothes. I hope that one day the store will be become more reminiscent of the past.JWhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14693156685962545876noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5626192629073665282.post-10911879692128503952008-04-16T13:55:00.000-07:002008-04-16T19:01:21.052-07:00Welcome to Under Five FourLiving in this world as a person of below average height is not easy. I cannot even tell you the number of times that I have been elbowed in the head because someone did not see me, dismissed as a child because of my height, or just completely overlooked.

This blog is dedicated to the men and women like myself who don't quite measure up to society's unspoken height requirement. Here we can realize that we are not alone.

On this blog you will be able to find information on clothing, products, and other items of interest for those of us on the shorter side. I will also feature celebrities and other people in the news who are vertically challenged.

Although the name of the blog "Under Five Four," refers to the height cut-off for petite clothing in women, I encourage any men and women who want to celebrate their shorntess to visit often.JWhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14693156685962545876noreply@blogger.com0
